Indian navy took delivery of another Tu-142ME long-range antisubmarine aircraft. The vehicle underwent overhaul at Beriev Aircraft Company (part of United Aircraft Corporation). The aircraft has successfully passed the tests and has been delivered to the Indian party, — said in the statement of Beriev Aircraft Company.
Eight Tu-142ME aircraft manufactured in Taganrog were delivered to Indian navy in late 1980s. Over the last 25 years Tu-142ME fleet accumulated over 28,000 flight hours without any incidents and established a reputation as reliable vehicles. Indian pilots call these turboprops “Albatross”, because they resemble this bird.
A well-established after-sales support system in India (the most complicated MRO activities are carried out at Hansa air base) as well as scheduled overhaul carried out by the Taganrog-based enterprise have contributed to the aircraft’s success in India. In the area of MRO services and service life extension the Indian naval aviation Command works closely with Rosoboronexport and Beriev Aircraft Company. The enterprise is responsible for after-sales support of the aircraft delivered to India, in particular, this refers to repair, overhaul and deliveries of spare parts; the quality of service was highly appreciated by the Indian party. Over the last 21 years a total of 21 Tu-142ME aircraft were overhauled.
